Letter : New York, [N.Y.], to James Abbott, Detroit, [Mich.], 1832 July 13.

July 13, 1832, letter of introduction to fur trader James Abbott of Detroit, written by William B. Astor for Mr. Von Braunsberg (Alexander Philip Maximilian, Prince of Wied-Neuwied), who was beginning his two-year natural science expedition to the trans-Mississippi region of North America. The introduction was probably never used, as cholera in Detroit and Buffalo prevented the prince from traveling west via the Great Lakes.
